When asked about the Qur’an, most people respond with a simple answer: “The Qur’an is the holy book of Islam.” While this is undeniably true, it barely scratches the surface of what the Qur’an truly represents. In essence, the Qur’an is a divine revelation from Allah, given to humanity to provide guidance and to hold them accountable for their actions.
Thus, it is imperative for people to thoroughly understand its contents, commands, advice, and decrees. However, there is a significant deficiency in this understanding among many people today. A large number of individuals are not familiar with the deeper content of the Qur’an.
What If We Do Not Read The Qur’an?
There are numerous misconceptions and superstitions surrounding the Qur’an. Often, it is hung on the walls of houses in decorative covers and read occasionally by the elderly. Many people read it in Arabic, a language they can recite but do not understand. This practice leads to a situation where they read the words without comprehending the meaning, thus missing out on the profound messages contained within the Qur’an.
Furthermore, some people attribute mystical and superstitious benefits to the Qur’an. After reading it and performing rituals like breathing on someone’s face, they believe that the Qur’an will protect them and their loved ones from potential future misfortunes.
This perception reduces the Qur’an to a sort of amulet, filled with talismanic words thought to offer protection. Additionally, some traditions, although contradictory to the essence of the Qur’anic message, are mistakenly believed to originate from the Qur’an.
So, what is the true nature of the Qur’an? The answer lies within the Qur’an itself. It is a divine message meant to be conveyed to humanity, to warn them, to make them aware of the oneness of God, and to guide the intelligent and reflective individuals to heed its lessons. The Qur’an clearly states:
“This is a communication to be transmitted to mankind so that they may be warned by it and so that they will know that He is One God and so that people of intelligence will pay heed.” (Surah Ibrahim, 52)
“We have made the Qur’an easy to remember. But is there any rememberer there?” (Surat al-Qamar, 32)
“There is instruction in their stories for people of intelligence. This is not a narration which has been invented but confirmation of all that came before, a clarification of everything, and a guidance and a mercy for people who believe.” (Surah Yusuf, 111)
“That is the Book, without any doubt. It contains guidance for those who guard against evil.” (Surat al-Baqara, 2)
Do they, then, not reflect on the Qur’an? Or are there locks on their hearts? (Surah Muhammad 47:24)
These verses and many others emphasize that the real purpose of the Qur’an’s revelation is to encourage people to reflect on crucial issues such as the creation and the purpose of life, to provide them with knowledge about Allah, their Creator, and to guide them towards the right path. The Qur’an is a book for those with open minds and souls.
Therefore, it is essential to correct the misconception that the Qur’an is only addressed to the apostle or religious scholars.
The notion that the Quran is exclusively for Muslims is a gross misconception. This sacred scripture, revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), is a universal message from the Creator of all mankind. It offers guidance, wisdom, and a path to salvation for every human being, irrespective of their race, nationality, or religion.
Allah has highlighted the importance of distinct recitation and deep reflection upon its verses:
“…and recite the Qur’an distinctly.” (Surat al-Muzzammil, 4)
“Will they not ponder the Qur’an?…” (Surat an-Nisa’, 82)
Failing to follow the Qur’an’s teachings and not learning about religion from its original source has led to numerous prejudices and misconceptions entering Islam through various traditions. Learning the Qur’an is just the first step; it must be followed by applying its teachings in daily life.
Some people mistakenly believe that merely reading the Qur’an fulfills their religious duties. However, it is crucial not only to learn what is in the Qur’an but also to practice and implement its instructions, thereby integrating the Qur’an into one’s everyday life. As Allah states:
“I only created jinn and man to worship Me.” (Surat adh-Dhariyat, 56)
He created all people to worship Him and revealed the Qur’an as guidance for those who worship Him:
“It is a Book We have sent down to you, full of blessing, so let people of intelligence ponder its Signs and take heed.” (Surah Sâd, 29)
The Qur’an provides all the information necessary for one’s salvation in this world and the hereafter. It details Allah’s commands, the good morals He approves of, the attitudes deserving of punishment, and all the facts related to both the worldly life and the hereafter.
It covers all types of human characters one might encounter, teaches the fear and love of Allah, and essentially provides answers to all life’s questions. Despite this, some people avoid learning and practicing the teachings of the Qur’an, missing out on the opportunity to transition from darkness to light. Allah’s commands in the Qur’an offer the only path to salvation for humanity, both in this world and in the hereafter.
For a Muslim who comprehends the significance of the Qur’an, it is vital to acquire an in-depth understanding of its teachings. This understanding enables one to serve Allah sincerely and live in accordance with His guidance.
This website aims to deepen the Qur’anic knowledge of believers, helping them honor Allah, fulfill their religious obligations meticulously, and seek His pleasure, mercy, and paradise. Embracing the Qur’an’s wisdom, Muslims can lead a life that reflects true devotion, moral integrity, and spiritual fulfillment, aligning their daily actions with the divine commands and principles laid out in the Qur’an.
